Weebly started in the States a few years ago and quickly became an effective, and successful, space to host, layout and publish a website for free!
David Rusenko, Dan Veltri and Chris Fanini founded Weebly while they were students at Penn State. David recognized his friends wanted to put their resumes online to showcase their work for a job interview and found it extremely difficult. They didn’t know how to code and couldn’t afford to hire a professional designer but still needed to create something that would help them stand out.
David, Dan and Chris then teamed up to build Weebly,
They offer simple and effective drag and drop editing system with over 100 template themes which can be further customised. This means you can 'tweek' them so that they are just right for your needs. If you want to 'get your hands dirty' with web code, you can edit both HTML and CSS files. They have over 20 million sites using the Weebly system.
Weebly was named one of TIME’s 50 'Best Websites of the Year' in 2007 and now has million customers.
Their basic free account is advertising-free and offers elegant themes. You can attac he your own domain name or use one of theirs. Thy offer excellent photo slideshows and you can include HD video as well. If you want to remove the "free site by Weebly" credit then go fo rthe 'Starter' account for $4.00 per month which allows more flexibility, better stats and premium support. Their 'Pro' account is $8.00 per month and offers extra professional features.
All their themes work well on tablets and mobiles so your site will look good no matter how people access it. They also have dedicated iPhone and Android apps so you can upload new material , or make changes, on the go. On the whole an extremely elegant and well designed service. Lots of artists are using it.
