It is sometimes extremely difficult to know what to charge as an artists when you are pitching for a project or trying to put together a budget proposal.
Although university and college art courses do offer professional practice modules it is unusual for specific training to be given on how to calculate charges - particularly in fine art courses.
a-n The Artists information Company, described by Arts Council England as “the effective lead body for visual artists” has, since 204, published a list of day rates which artists might charge.
An interesting document as it takes into account different rates for new graduates and up to 10 years out of college. The figures are moderated by what it might cost you to actually earn that amount of money based on your overheads.
The 2015 document can be found on the a-n website and is a must read for anyone charging for their time.
